The AISAT’s BS Aviation Management Major in Airline Operations department has conducted its first AvM Safety Management System (SMS) class culmination on December 1, 2025. Organized by the AvM 3A students as their final examination in Aviation Safety Management 2, the event was attended by 1st- and 2nd-year aviation management students, fourth-year aviation management interns, and some students from the aviation department, as well as Ms. Karina Ingrid Therese R. Kahulugan, AvM Program OIC, and Engr. Aida Rosales, MA-MATH, Head of Academic Affairs. The event was based on the selected best project proposals from the former batch of students, which were then implemented through a final event organizing examination.
The two-part event began with the opening of boarding gates, which also served as a registration and distribution point for boarding passes to the participants. It was followed by a taxiing segment, during which the student organizers simulated a cabin announcement, safety demonstration, and takeoff. After that, a plane crash was simulated, and the timer for the escape room began. The first event was an escape room with five stations, namely: a jigsaw puzzle, an ink and paper paradigm, a rebus puzzle, a decoding wheel, and a squid game inspired by the “ddakji” game. Two batches of students participated in the escape room event, with the first-year aviation management students and some aviation students in the first batch, and the 2nd- and 3rd-year aviation management students, along with some aviation students, in the second batch.
Moreover, the second event was a symposium on the aerospace industry and the future of aviation safety. The event featured Mr. Carlos Leo Panelo as a guest speaker, a 4th-year Aerospace Engineering Student at Ateneo de Davao University, a participant in the 2025 International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) in Texas, USA, and the champion of the recently held Malaysia Rocket Competition (MRC) 2025 in Ipoh, Malaysia. The guest speaker began with an introduction to aerospace and the differences between aeronautics and astronautics. After that, he presented the aerospace industry as an allied industry where aviation students also have job opportunities in areas such as flight planning, human capital management, and legislative research, among others. He also discussed aerospace safety, which plays a crucial role in air and space travel.
In addition, the guest speaker addressed specific topics, including unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), also known as drones, commercial space vehicles, rockets, surface-to-air missiles, lasers, and artificial intelligence. The talk was then followed by an open forum, where participants had the opportunity to ask the guest speaker questions. Some of the questions asked include the possibility of flying cars, the commercialization of space flight, and the existence of aliens. Following this, certificates were awarded to the guest speaker, judges, and student organizers. The event then concluded with a closing remark by Mr. Jon Lorence Panelo, Part-Time Aviation Management Instructor, who instilled in the participants the importance of continuing to dream, hope, and thrive, thereby enduring for the future.
The AISAT AvM department once again extends its gratitude to all participants in the first AvM SMS class culmination. To the aviation management students, we look forward to more AvM student-led events in the future! To the AISAT community, we look forward to seeing you at our next class event! Let your dreams take flight!
