Davao City, January – The Asian International School of Aeronautics and Technology (AISAT) has reinforced its pre-pandemic uniform policy, requiring students to wear their Type A uniform upon entering the campus, even if they have lab or PE classes scheduled for the day. This policy had existed before the pandemic and aligns with the uniform regulations of well-known local universities. Its renewed enforcement has sparked discussions among students.

Previously, students could enter campus in the uniform corresponding to their schedule, such as lab attire or PE uniforms. The updated rule now requires them to arrive in their Type A uniform first and change only when necessary. The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) explained that this policy aims to instill discipline, professionalism, and consistency—qualities that are essential in the aviation industry.

Many students understand the rationale behind the stricter enforcement, but some find the requirement inconvenient, particularly those with packed schedules or long commutes.

“AISAT’s high standard and quality teaching is reflected in its instructors—whether strict or chill. The need for discipline is clear, but the new uniform policy creates difficulties,” shared one student. “Before, we could enter and exit school in lab attire without any issue. Now, since PE class is on Wednesday, wearing a Wednesday shirt is necessary just to enter, later with the PE uniform.”

Another student acknowledged the necessity of discipline in professional training but noted that the transition has been challenging. “The new implementation follows the same policies as other schools, so adapting to it makes sense. It’s not just about the students, but also about maintaining the school’s image. Future workplaces will have even stricter rules, so practicing discipline now is beneficial. However, carrying extra uniforms all day creates an inconvenience.”

The biggest issue for many is the lack of locker space, making it difficult to store multiple uniforms and shoes. Without proper storage, students must carry extra clothing throughout the day, which adds to their daily burden.

Recognizing these concerns, the Supreme Student Council (SSC) has taken steps to ease the adjustment period. SSC President Clint Steven Villanueva Plaza announced that his year-end project will focus on installing additional lockers on the third floor near the library and student lounge.

Funding for this initiative will come from SSC’s remaining budget and proceeds from AISATakbo, a fun run dedicated to raising funds for student welfare projects. “Supporting the school’s goal of discipline remains important, but making it more manageable for students is just as necessary,” Plaza said. “Providing more locker space will significantly reduce the hassle of carrying multiple uniforms every day.”

The OSA has assured students that the stricter uniform rule is not permanent. A consistent demonstration of discipline may lead to a reconsideration of the policy, potentially allowing students to wear the uniform that corresponds to their schedule, as was the case before the pandemic.

“The goal is discipline, but OSA remains open to adjustments over time,” Plaza explained. “A more flexible approach, especially for students in lab-heavy programs like Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) and Aviation Electronics Technology (AET), would help balance professionalism with practicality.”

AISAT continues to reinforce its pre-pandemic uniform standards, and students and faculty are working through the transition. Discipline remains a priority, but SSC is committed to supporting students by improving campus storage facilities and advocating for gradual policy flexibility.

Ongoing discussions and student-led initiatives keep the AISAT community optimistic that adjustments will be made to balance discipline with convenience in the future.
